Creating or Editing Your Profile

To create your profile, log into LibGuides and then click the link in the upper right to Edit My Account.  From there, click the Customize Profile Box tab.

  1. Fill out the profile box title and the display name.
  2. Add a photo. Usability study participants thought photos were "friendly".
  3. Either use your own phone number and email address, or make it clear that the email you are linking to is the reference desk. Usability participants were confused when contact info listed was not the librarian in the photo.
  4. Don't fill in the website URL or social media information. Keep profile brief to minimize confusion.

Placement of Profile on Guides

On most guides, you will want to place your profile on the far right BELOW the LibraryH3lp widget, as usability participants prefered to use the LibraryH3lp chat as a contact method.  To do this:

  1. When in editing mode, click to Remove Profile Boxes from Page.  
  2. Click Add New Box, and add the Ask Us box from the template.
  3. Click Add New Box again, and click "select box type" then "system content boxes" and then "user profile".

Do not repeat your profile more than once on a single guide.
