Library building: Hours and access

Library building access:

  • Until further notice, the Metro State Library is open to students and employees ONLY. See here for Dayton's Bluff branch access.
  • As of Monday, May 17, access to the second floor has re-opened.
  • Use your university ID at the card readers at the ground floor east entrance (parking lot side) to enter. Security personnel are on-hand to assist. 
  • You are highly encouraged to wear a mask over your nose and mouth while in the building.
  • If you do not have a university ID, get one by mail.

Metro Library hours Summer 2021:‚Äč

  • Monday through Saturday: OPEN 10am--6pm
  • Sundays: CLOSED
  • Closed for holidays May 29-31, July 4-5

Study rooms:

During the Covid-19 pandemic, study rooms are for individual use only; group study is not allowed. The children of parents are exempt from this policy. Only the first-floor study rooms are available. They are currently equipped with computers. No food or drink allowed.

Community members and alumni:

We regret the inconvenience, but the Metro library is closed to you at this time. See below for Dayton's Bluff branch access. You may access online library resources, e.g. ebooks, ejournals, research databases, and research assistance through your home public library's website or through https://elibrarymn.org/

 

How to get your ID card

The request an ID, email library.circulation@metrostate.edu with:

  • A color photo of yourself
  • A picture or scan of your Minnesota driver's license or equivalent
  • Your 8-digit student ID number or the last 4 digits of your Social Security number
  • Your mailing address

Your ID will be mailed to the address provided. Allow 7 to 10 days for mailing and processing.

To get an ID card in-person (starting May 17), visit the Library and Learning Center (2nd floor). You will be asked to show a valid, government-issued photo ID (for example, a driver’s license or passport).

Dayton's Bluff branch of St. Paul Public Library

The Dayton's Bluff Branch of the St. Paul Public Library, located within the Library and Learning Center building, is now open limited hours and for limited "library express" services.

Computers and printing

Computers, printers, and wi-fi are available on the first floor only of the library during the hours the building is open.

Please practice social distancing. If you need computer assistance, phone 651-793-1624.

Other campus computer labs are also available:

  • Student Center:  Monday-Friday, 9am - 1pm
  • Midway Center:  Monday-Friday, 8:30am - 5pm
  • Management Education Center:  Monday-Thursday, 8:30am - 5pm; Friday 8:30am - noon
  • Hennepin Technical College (next to LECJEC), rm F111:  Monday-Thursday 11am - 7pm; Friday 8am - 4pm
